Perimenopause, Menopause & Food Noise: What Happens When It Finally Goes Quiet

A gentle note: Before we begin, please know this isn't about advocating for one path over another. Whether your journey includes medication, surgery, both or neither, that's a deeply personal decision, best made alongside your medical professional. Wherever you are in your journey, there's no judgement here, only support
From what I've seen, I believe we're missing one of the biggest opportunities in weight management.
Not because of the medication or procedure itself... but because of the opportunity it creates.
Over the past year, I've had many conversations than with women, including many navigating perimenopause, menopause and midlife, taking Wegovy, Mounjaro, Ozempic or Zepbound, as well as women who have had gastric sleeve or gastric band surgery.
And let's be clear: weight is far more complex than simply eating too much.
It can be influenced by genetics, hormones, medical conditions, medications, chronic pain, menopause, lifestyle, emotional wellbeing... and often a combination of many factors.
But I believe there's an opportunity we're not making the most of.
When the food noise becomes quieter, a unique opportunity begins. Not just to lose weight, although for many women that's part of the journey, but to build the beliefs, patterns and habits that support your health for life.
One of the biggest myths I hear is this: many women feel as though they've "lost their willpower."
I don't believe that's what's happening.
For many of us, our subconscious has spent years learning ways to cope, protect us and help us navigate life's challenges. Many of those patterns become automatic. So, when life becomes stressful, busy or emotional, it's easy to slip back into familiar ways of thinking or behaving.
Not because you've failed - but because your subconscious naturally returns to familiar patterns.
Whatever has brought a woman to this point in her journey, there's an opportunity to build beliefs, habits and routines that support her health and wellbeing for the future.
That's why I believe this work shouldn't wait until someone reaches their goal weight. It can happen at any stage of the journey:
While the opportunity is there.
While the food noise is quieter.
While there's space to create something different.
It's also about recognising and celebrating how far you've already come:
The healthier choices you've made.
The confidence you've started to rebuild.
The routines you're creating.
The relationship you're developing with yourself.
Those changes deserve to last.
Because this isn't just about losing weight. It's about:
Improving your health.
Having more energy.
Reducing pain and inflammation.
Building confidence.
Creating a healthier relationship with yourself.
This is where lasting change begins - bringing together medical support, nutrition, movement, strength training, and the beliefs, patterns and habits that support your long-term health.
Because sustainable change rarely comes from one thing alone.
The medication may quiet the food noise. What you choose to build during that time has the potential to last long after the medication has finished.
Every healthy choice, every new habit and every shift in thinking is a step towards a healthier, stronger and more confident future.
And that's something truly worth celebrating. 💛
