Rewiring Reality – What Hypnotherapy Really Does (and Why It Works So Well)
You’ve probably heard the phrase “mind over matter” — but what if I told you it’s actually “mind under matter” that holds the key? Welcome to the world of hypnotherapy, where change starts deep beneath the surface. This blog lifts the lid on what’s really going on when you close your eyes and tune into transformation.
1. Your Brain on Hypnosis
Hypnosis isn’t magic. It’s science. During hypnosis, your brain shifts into a more relaxed state — known as the theta wave state — similar to what happens just before sleep or during deep meditation. It’s in this state that the subconscious becomes more receptive to suggestion, change, and healing.
It’s like gently getting past that overthinking part of your mind — the one that always wants to be in control (your conscious)— so you can have a proper conversation with the part that actually drives your decisions: your subconscious.
2. The Subconscious Saboteur: What’s Really Holding You Back
We all have an internal script running our lives — much of it written before we were even 10 years old. These early programs (like “I must please to be loved” or “I’m not good enough”) can quietly sabotage our success, confidence, and peace.
Hypnotherapy helps you rewrite that script, aligning your inner beliefs with the life you want, not the one you've been unconsciously replaying.
3. Why Willpower Feels So Hard (And What to Use Alongside It)
Willpower is useful — and we’ve all used it to push through from time to time. But when it’s the only strategy you’re relying on, it can feel like paddling upstream with a teaspoon. Exhausting. Frustrating. Unsustainable.
That’s because willpower often works against your subconscious patterns — the ones quietly running the show beneath the surface.
Hypnotherapy doesn’t replace your willpower. It supports it. By shifting the beliefs, habits, and emotional anchors at the root level, hypnosis makes change feel less like a battle and more like a natural next step.
4. What Happens If You Fall Asleep During Hypnosis?
You’re usually awake during hypnotherapy — just in a deeply relaxed, restful state. But some sessions, including 'what I call' Sleep Editions (designed to support things like sleep, weight loss management, or stress reduction), are intentionally created to be listened to as you drift off.
You might start listening… and then wake up at the end — or the next morning! That’s completely fine. Your subconscious still absorbs the suggestions. Even if you fall asleep, the inner work is still happening. That said, it’s often helpful to stay awake for the first couple of listens so your mind can fully tune in before it becomes part of your nightly rhythm.
5. Clinical vs Stage Hypnosis: Not All Hypnosis Is Created Equal
As I touched on in a previous blog, clinical hypnotherapy is nothing like the stage shows or those outdated, dramatic portrayals you might’ve seen. No pocket watches. No mind control. And definitely no clucking chickens.
It’s a gentle, collaborative therapy that honours your safety, your values, and your goals. You’re always aware, always in control — and you can’t be made to do anything that doesn’t feel right to you.
This is real work, not a performance. And it’s all about helping you create change in a way that feels safe, supportive, and empowering.
In Summary – Hypnosis Isn’t What You Thought
Hypnotherapy is science-backed, deeply empowering, and surprisingly practical. Whether it’s used to reduce anxiety, release old patterns, or reclaim your confidence, it’s a gentle-yet-powerful tool to transform from the inside out.
